Russian Salad Dressing

We both grew up with a different looking bottled Russian dressing. We made this recipe for Russian salad dressing and of course, it looked different. It tasted fantastic, like Thousand Island salad with the addition of chili sauce and some spices (and a bit of heat). That bottled stuff that’s red and looks more like French or Catalina dressing? Almost the same thing, but without the creamy mayonnaise.

Russian Salad Dressing

I Could Go For A Reuben Sandwich

This Russian salad dressing is fantastic on a fresh green salad. But oh, would it ever be amazing on a Reuben sandwich. Sure, you could go with the classic Thousand Island, but why not kick that sandwich up a bit and use this instead? And don’t be shy with it either!

Start Out with Less Onion

Depending on how you feel about onion flavor, I’d say start with a smaller shallot. Some shallots are hotter than others and if you go all-in with a bigger shallot it might overwhelm all of the other flavors in the dressing. So go easy with it at first. You can always add more.

When a recipe like this one calls for mayonnaise, there’s only one that I reach for. Yep, there’s a number of great mayonnaise brands out there. I’ve tried them all I think. But in the end, I go with Blue Plate mayonnaise each and every time.

Also try my copycat of Portillo’s sweet Italian salad dressing.

Rich and Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing

This rich and creamy blue cheese dressing is dangerous. It’s a bit too good. Too creamy. Too blue cheesy. Too rich. I had to really exercise self-control when I made a salad and this dressing. I could’ve easily ended up embarrassing myself. Self-control was difficult. I love this dressing. I can’t wait to make it again.

Rich and Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing

Give It A Rest

This rich and creamy blue cheese dressing gets better with time. It’s hard not to eat it as soon as you make it, but you gotta let it rest. Make it, cover it, and put it in the fridge and try not to think about it. Don’t go peeking at it. Don’t go ‘test tasting’ it. Just let it be. I found that going on a long walk helps. Something to get my mind off of the goodness that awaits.

This dressing is fantastic for dipping wings, too!

Next time I’m doubling the recipe. To keep myself from using it all at once, I serve it in these little cups.

I love this dressing on a homemade Subway oven-roasted turkey and ham sub in a tub!

Parmesan and Peppercorn Ranch Salad Dressing

This parmesan and peppercorn ranch salad dressing kinda confused me at first. I love ranch dressing. I love peppercorn ranch dressing. And parmesan, well I put that on everything. But when I first tasted it my mouth was like ‘What are you doing to me? Everything we love in one bite?’ Yep. That’s exactly what I was doing. This dressing is a wonderful combination of all those flavors. Get ready for a happy salad! (And mouth!)

Parmesan and Peppercorn Ranch Salad Dressing

Not Creamy Smooth. But Close.

This parmesan peppercorn ranch salad dressing has parmesan in it. I know, you know that. But I’m saying it because you might expect a creamy, smooth dressing like ranch. And it is that… with a little nutty cheese added in. The cheese adds not only flavor but texture. It’s kinda different and a whole lot yummy.

My honey-mustard ranch dressing is different, too!

  • 2 cups plain lowfat yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt you might want more
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons milk optional

Instructions

  • Combine the Parmesan cheese, yogurt, salt, mayonnaise, pepper, green onion, and parsley in a medium bowl.

Jalapeno Ranch Salad Dressing

I could’ve made a smooth, creamy, mellow Ranch dressing. Like I have a number of times before. But no, I wanted a bit of a change. I wanted a salad dressing that would sneak up on me and then hit me with a little kick. This jalapeno Ranch dressing has that bit of kick, but also a great pepper flavor. I’m not a big fan of jalapeno-infused flavors where I can’t still taste the fact that the jalapeno is a pepper. This jalapeno Ranch dressing has that and more. No forgetting that the jalapeno is a pepper here.

Jalapeno Ranch Salad Dressing

Ranch Elevated With A Kick

The dressing thickens a bit as it sits. If it gets too thick for your liking just add a bit more buttermilk. A little at a time. Don’t add too much at a time. You can add more, but you can’t take it out once it’s in there! Stir and serve.

This dressing is also great as a dip for vegetables or chips. Use less buttermilk to make a thick, spicy dressing for hamburgers, wraps, or sandwiches.

Honky Tonk Sweet and Spicy Salad Dressing

Sweet and spicy is right. I admit, though, I’m not sure about the Honky Tonk part. But even still, what a great dressing! It has a nice vinegar hit to it. And I spicy kick, thanks to the addition of Sriracha sauce. And my favorite, celery seed. I absolutely love celery seed in everything from a salad dressing to a BBQ seasoning rub to coleslaw. If you’re looking for a break from your tired old salad dressing, this Honky Tonk Sweet and Spicy salad dressing is it. Don’t be shy with it. Load up. You’ll thank me.

It Gets Better With Time

This Honky Tonk sweet and spicy salad dressing gets even better as it sits. You should let it ‘get happy’ for a few hours. But I have to say, it didn’t sit long in our house. I really like this dressing a lot. It’s different in a very, very good way. I like to make a double batch and keep it in salad dressing serving bottles in the fridge. I’m kind of a dressing addict so it’s best that I have extra on hand at all times. It’s always better to have too much instead of not having enough!

Homemade Thousand Island Salad Dressing

There are certainly a whole lot of homemade Thousand Island dressing recipes out on the internet and in cookbooks. They’re everywhere. But I found this one to be slightly different. The flavor is richer. It’s deeper. And it has just a little spicy kick to it. It’s different and just better than the rest. And it uses ingredients that I have on-hand. That’s a plus. Perfect on a salad, and even better on a Reuben sandwich.

Homemade Thousand Island Salad Dressing

Add A Little Spice. I Did.

I wasn’t shy with the hot sauce when I made this homemade Thousand Island dressing. Now, I wasn’t making spicy wing sauce, no, but I wanted to get that spiciness. So many dressings are just creamy. Or just vinegary. A little heat changes things up. But you don’t have to.

So why is it called Thousand Island dressing? Because it came from the Thousand Island region between the US and Canada. I didn’t know that either.

Check out my always-growing list of the best homemade salad dressings and toppings.

Creamy Pineapple Vinaigrette

This creamy pineapple vinaigrette was a bit of a departure from my recent Ranch binge. It’s a bit tropical. A bit sweet. Thinner than Ranch, it’s a wonderful change that really kicked my evening salad up a lot. I’m a huge fan of coconut, and this dressing has just enough so that I taste it (and even get a bit of the aroma from it).

Creamy Pineapple Vinaigrette

More Pineapple, Please

I added a bit more pineapple than the recipe for this creamy pineapple vinaigrette called for. You might want to too, especially if you want a bit more of that tropical sweetness. If you end up with any leftover pineapple, just toss it onto your salad.

Don’t use sweetened coconut milk. Instead, use the unsweetened version and add honey to sweeten it to taste. The pre-sweetened milk is just way too sweet for a vinaigrette in my opinion!

Also try my roasted red pepper vinaigrette.

Creamy Cucumber Salad Dressing

There’s something about fresh cucumber and a salad. Usually that means slices of cucumber on top of fresh greens. This time I decided to have that fresh flavor in my dressing instead, so I made a small batch of creamy cucumber salad dressing. Creamy (but not too thick) and slightly garlicky (I recommend using half the stated amount at first), this dressing has that fresh cucumber flavor without being too … cucumber-y?

Creamy Cucumber Salad Dressing

Better The Next Day

This creamy cucumber salad dressing definitely gets better the next day. It’s one of those dressings that needs that extra time for the flavors to come together. That’s not to say it’s bad when you first make it. Not at all. And truth be told, you could definitely serve it as soon as you make it. But it’s better the next day. So wait. Be patient.

This creamy blue cheese salad dressing is easily my favorite blue cheese dressing. It’s so nice and creamy. And although it’s definitely ‘blue cheesy’ it’s not so overwhelming. Copycat TGI Friday’s Mandarin Orange Sesame Salad Dressing

I am always looking for new salad dressing recipes for Salad Week. Something to change things up. We usually have salad week if we have over-indulged the week before or if we have eaten out too many meals while traveling. This copycat TGI Friday’s Mandarin orange sesame dressing is so good! The orange marmalade and the honey balance out the sesame oil. Sesame oil is such a strong flavor so you can use a little less if preferred, but I love the taste of it. I like that it has chopped Mandarin oranges for texture. I also added Mandarin oranges to the salad to tie it all together. Salad week is always great thanks to great dressings like this one!
