Copycat Texas Roadhouse Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

My go-to meal at Texas Roadhouse is the Chicken Critter Salad. Tender fried chicken pieces on top a simple salad is what I like. What I crave, though, are the dressings. This copycat Texas Roadhouse Honey mustard salad dressing is a pretty close copy of one of my favorites. Not too mustard-y, and just slightly sweet it’s a nice change from my usual, Ranch. The smoked paprika adds a nice light earthy taste with just a hint of smokiness. I know what you’re probably thinking. He goes to a steakhouse for a salad? Yeah, I do. It’s a really good salad, with a really great dressing that I can now enjoy at home!

The Perfect Balance

The easiest way to make this copycat Texas Roadhouse Honey Mustard salad dressing is in a mason jar. Just put everything in there, seal it, and shake real well. You’ll want to refrigerate any leftovers, if there are any. Set the dressing out on the counter about 30 minutes before serving and give it one good shake before using. The dressing will ‘harden’ when it’s refrigerated. That’s perfectly normal. That few minutes at room temperature will ‘free’ it up and it’ll be ready to serve.

My go-to meal at Texas Roadhouse is the Chicken Critter Salad. Tender fried chicken pieces on top a simple salad is what I like. What I crave, though, are the dressings. This copycat Texas Roadhouse Ranch salad dressing is a pretty close copy of my favorite. And I do mean favorite. I could drink this stuff. I always order two dressings at the restaurant. Without hesitation. Without fear of being judged. I am sure I’m not the only one.

I know what you’re probably thinking. He goes to a steakhouse for a salad? Yeah, I do. It’s a really good salad, with a really great dressing that I can now enjoy at home!

The Perfect Ranch Dressing

I always double the ingredients in this copycat Texas Roadhouse Ranch salad dressing. Not only is it great on my sorta-copycat of the Chicken Critter salad, it’s fantastic for dipping Buffalo wings and chips. It’s also perfect as a veggie dip for an afternoon snack. I also need more because well, I use a lot of it!

I have no idea how long this dressing would keep in the fridge. Sorry. It never lasts long enough to find out.

Copycat Olive Garden Salad Dressing

Last week was salad week here. That means fresh greens, lots of different vegetables and some fruits, sliced grilled chicken, and of course, homemade salad dressings. This copycat Olive Garden salad dressing has a nice rich cheese flavor. There’s a little sweetness and just a hint of citrus. It’s a well-balanced dressing, and even though it has vinegar too, it is tamed down a bit by the mayonnaise. I’m not a big fan of overly-vinegary anything, especially dressings. This one doesn’t scare me off, not one bit. That’s a good thing, of course!

Thicker or Thinner It’s Up to You

I recommend starting with less vinegar if you want a thicker dressing. Begin with a tablespoon and add more if you like. I kept this copycat Olive Garden salad dressing in some little glass jars that I picked up in the kitchen section of our local grocery store. They seal air-tight, making them the perfect containers for salad dressings. You could just as easily use Mason jars. Mason jars are always great for making and storing dressings.

Of course you can transfer the dressing to fancier containers, such as cruets, for serving if you wish.

Smoky Spicy Ranch Salad Dressing

We both declared this smoky spicy Ranch salad dressing to be one of our favorites. And that was after just one bite of a salad lightly drizzled with the dressing. It brings a good bit of heat, there’s no doubt, thanks to the chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. And a bit of smokiness thanks also to the chipotles in adobo sauce. And then there’s classic Ranch flavor, thanks, well, to the Ranch dressing mix! It might seem like there are a good number of ingredients to make a dressing, but trust me, it’s more than worth it.

What Ranch Dressing Should Be

As with a lot of dressings, smoky spicy Ranch salad dressing is much better if it has had a chance to sit overnight in the fridge. The flavors get ‘happy’. Just give the dressing a quick stir before serving. I like to make and keep my dressings in Mason jars. When it comes time to serve it, I just give the dressing a few good shakes first.

This dressing would also make for a great dip for vegetables. It would also be fantastic for dipping chicken nuggets or tenders.

Copycat Applebee’s Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

We both loved this copycat honey mustard salad dressing from Applebee’s so much that we ended up making a big batch for salad week. Salad week comes along every few weeks here. Like the name implies, for that one week we eat nothing but salads. I look forward to salad week. In a way, I used to also look forward to salad week ending. That was until this dressing came along. Delightfully creamy, it’s a sweet mustardy dressing that strikes just the right balance. I don’t usually like things that are overly mustardy, and this dressing is spot-on perfect.

Real Mayonnaise Makes it Better

I would not use a light mayonnaise when making this copycat Applebee’s honey mustard salad dressing. I think a full-strength mayonnaise gives it a better consistency. Sure, you can use a light one if you prefer, but I think the extra calories are worth the better thickness and taste. For me, that means Blue Plate mayonnaise. It’s the only one I use, no matter what the recipe is. And there’s no reason to skimp on the Dijon. Use a good, quality mustard. The better the ingredients, the better the dressing!

Smoky French Salad Dressing

Not every salad dressing has to be garlicky. Or herby. A little spiciness now-and-then is a good thing, even in a salad dressing. That’s why this smoky French salad dressing was such a hit in our house. Salad Week (which happens at least once a month) was definitely a happier time with this dressing on hand. It’s essentially what you think. A classic French dressing kicked up with a chipotles in adobo sauce (smoked jalapenos, along with some of the delicious sauce they come in) for heat and smokiness.

Smoky French Salad Dressing

Great On Sandwiches Too!

This smoky French salad dressing would be great on more than ‘just’ a salad. First thing I thought of was a Reuben sandwich. Yeah, I know usually that means Russian or Thousand Island dressings, but this salad would bring a nice spicy edge to each and every bite. It’d be different for sure and that’s a good thing. I think I’ll give that a try!

I like to keep my homemade dressings in Mason jars in the fridge. When it comes time to serve them I just take them out, give them a good shake or two, and I’m ready to get to salad eatin’!
